# Hot Yoga and Infrared Studio Market Reaches USD 2.39 Billion in 2025 as At-Home Practice Undercuts the Studio Class

**LONDON, 26 October 2026** — The global market for hot yoga and infrared-heated studio memberships was worth **USD 2,390.2 million in 2025**, according to a report published by Pheonix Research, spanning roughly **5,250 heated studios** and **2.39 million paying members** worldwide. Pheonix Research forecasts the market to reach **USD 3,640.5 million by 2033**, a compound annual growth rate of 5.4 per cent.

The report finds that the category's competitive position is no longer set by other yoga studios but by two substitutes that did not exist at scale a decade ago: infrared-heated fitness franchises and digital at-home practice.

## The substitute now costs less than the product

CorePower Yoga, the largest owner-operator in the category with more than 220 locations, prices a single live class at **USD 18** and an At Home membership at **USD 19.99 a month**, reduced from USD 49. A month of unlimited instruction therefore costs 1.11 times one hour in a heated room.

On the supply side, infrared-heated fitness separates the heat from the teaching. HOTWORX reports 250,000+ members across 700+ studios — 357.1 members per site — and 800+ locations on its own site today, having entered Dubai, Ireland and Saudi Arabia. At a modelled USD 59 a month that is **USD 252,855 of revenue per studio**, against USD 500,000 for a heated yoga studio: 50.6 per cent of the revenue from a smaller footprint, with no instructor on the payroll and around-the-clock access.

## Franchise supply is contracting faster than demand

Xponential Fitness, which owns YogaSix and operated 3,233 studios globally at the end of 2024, closed **225 studios during the year — 6.96 per cent of its global open base** — above its own 3 to 5 per cent guidance, and attributed the excess to StretchLab, CycleBar and YogaSix. Roughly 30 per cent of licences contractually obligated to open were more than twelve months behind schedule and inactive.

The openings mix has moved with it. Pilates is expected to account for 46 per cent of new studio openings in 2025, yoga — largely hot — for 27 per cent, cycling for 4 per cent and barre for 2 per cent, according to industry estimates presented at boutique-fitness forums this year.

## Demand is not the constraint

National Health Interview Survey data published by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention put yoga practice at 16.9 per cent of American adults in 2022, and a peer-reviewed analysis of five NHIS cycles puts it at 55.78 million adults, or 16.8 per cent — up from 5.0 per cent in 2002. The Sports & Fitness Industry Association counted 34.2 million yoga participants in 2023, 19.1 per cent more than five years earlier.

Against that population, the heated-studio business reaches **4.29 per cent** of the US yoga public. The constraint is conversion and price, not awareness.

## Japan shows the alternative model

LAVA International operates 540+ hot yoga studios across Japan, 12.6 per cent of the world's heated yoga studios, and runs them on its own balance sheet with 6,009 social-insurance-insured employees — 11.1 per studio including head office. Its disclosure that 2.5 million people have taken a trial class equates to 4,630 trialists per studio: a very large funnel converted at a modest price, rather than a small funnel converted at a premium.

## Growth is a pricing decision

Pheonix Research's base case splits the forecast into its parts: heated studios grow from 5,250 to roughly 6,650 by 2033, a compound rate of 3.0 per cent, while revenue per studio grows 2.33 per cent from USD 455,279. The 5.4 per cent headline is those two compounded. The scenario band runs from **USD 3,027.9 million** at 3.0 per cent growth to **USD 4,262.9 million** at 7.5 per cent.

The report's conclusion is blunt: a market that needs a price rise every year to hit its forecast is a market whose growth is a pricing decision rather than a demand discovery. Its defensible asset is the room and the scheduled hour, not the heat - and heat is now available by panel, by app, or by neither.

## About the report
