A Fifth of the Revenue Left and No Customer Did

Shandong Taihe lost 19.12 per cent of its revenue in 2023 and no customer left. In a market where the feedstock is 75 to 83 per cent of the product price, the forecast's real assumption is not demand — it is whether the chain can reprice a drum faster than a furnace changes its mind.

Sixty-Three Per Cent Is Not Idle Capacity

Chinese yellow phosphorus ran at about 63 per cent of installed capacity in 2025 — which sounds like a third of the industry standing idle. Against the effective capacity band the same output is 83.33 per cent. The denominator is administered, and that is the entire supply thesis for every phosphonate above it.

One Oxygen Is the Whole Market Boundary

Phosphoric acid is P(V) and priced off rock and sulfur. Phosphorous acid is P(III) and priced off an electric furnace, because it is the entry point to the carbon–phosphorus bond. Fifty-eight per cent of a tonne of HEDP is the yellow phosphorus inside it, and that one number reorganises the whole USD 855 million pool.

The Acid That Used to Be the Cheap Route

The wet process beat the thermal route on cost for as long as sulfur was cheap. Then sulfur went to USD 820 a tonne, the advantage reversed by RMB 1,400 a tonne, and 2.48 million tonnes of new Chinese purification capacity meant the cost could not be passed on.

Phosphorous Acid Is Priced by a Power Bill, Not a Rock Price

One oxygen separates a rock-indexed commodity from a power-indexed specialty. Thermal acid is running at 35 per cent utilisation while wet-process runs at 65, and every phosphonate inherits the consequences.

Lanolin’s 2026 Supply Was Decided by a Drought, Not an Order Book

Australia's shorn wool clip is forecast 12.6% smaller this season. Lanolin is a by-product of scouring that clip, so the 2026 pharmaceutical and cosmetic ingredient market is already contracted — and the pharmacopoeia-grade buyer has no substitute.

The Refinery Additive Follows the Unit, Not the Barrel

Refinery additives are dosed against specific units, not barrels, so Europe’s 28 closed or converted refineries did not shrink the market — they relocated it.

Europe Is Shrinking Inside a Growing Chemicals Market

Our olefins forecast grows at 5.9% to 2033. Europe is closing 9% of its chemical capacity. Those are not opposing facts — Europe's exit is how the global number is achieved.
